Attorney Jennifer Niehaus-Rivers has worked as an attorney at Balsam Quinlan P.S. since 2020. She regularly assists with guardianship and conservatorship matters, trusts, and probate. Jennifer is a member of Collaborative Law Professionals of Pierce County (CLPPC), and the National Association for Legal Support Professionals (NALS). She has presented multiple lectures and CLEs, covering topics in legal ethics, legal issues in technology, and civil rights.
Jennifer holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Southern California, where she had a federal Army ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation, she served on active duty in the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. She attained the rank of Captain and separated from the Army in 1997.
Jennifer graduated from the University of Washington School of Law and was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 2007. In law school, she practiced as a Rule 9 intern in the UW Child Advocacy Clinic, the UW Mediation Clinic, and the Washington State Office of the Child and Family Ombudsman. She also holds a Master of Public Administration from the UW Evans School of Public Policy & Governance.
Jennifer was an adjunct faculty member in the Highline College Legal Studies department from 2005 – 2015, where she taught Introduction to Law & Civics, Civil Procedure, Constitutional and Civil Rights, and Legal Ethics. In private practice prior to joining Balsam Quinlan P.S., Jennifer primarily represented clients in family law, mediation, and civil claims.
Jennifer Niehaus-Rivers is a native of Sammamish, Washington. She has lived in Tacoma since 1997 with her husband Mike, a healthcare executive and retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel. Their son Dylan is a graduate of Bellarmine Preparatory School and Loyola Marymount University. Jennifer is active in the Tacoma theatre community as a teacher and performer, and has served on the Executive Board of Tacoma Little Theatre.
